Oberon #10
Here are some blog posts about the Topophonia installations:
Honour MacMillan
Lennart Nilsson (Swedish)
Quan Lavender
Today, January 27, is the "meet the artists" event at the site. The time is 1:00 PM SLT. That translates to 4:00 PM Eastern US, and 9:00 European time. I hope to see everyone there!

Oberon #9
I'll try to get some good photos for the next post. Meanwhile, here are the bios of the participating artists:
Oberon Onmura ("Nine Rooms")
Oberon Onmura has been making art in Second Life for over four years. In that time, his unique approach to exploring the capabilities of physical objects has attracted international attention of blog sites, Second Life and “real life” galleries and publications. Oberon's "real life" person lives and works in New York City.
Oberon cites as his primary influences American minimalist art of the 1960s and 70s for its precision of form, Stephen Wolfram’s “A New Kind of Science” for its analysis of complex systems, and Indian classical music for its manifestation of unseen physical reality in art.
Alpha Auer ("Listen ...")
Alpha Auer is one of the Second Life avatars of Elif Ayiter, who is a designer and educator, as well as the editor in chief of Metaverse Creativity, a peer reviewed academic journal with Intellect UK. Alpha is the CEO of the SL fashion store alpha.tribe and has participated in several SL exhibits, such as "SychroniCity," curated by Marc Moana and "Further Along the Path" curated by Bryn Oh. Together with MosMax Hax and Selavy Oh she has co-authored the" LPDT2/3" series of sim wide installations that were based upon Roy Ascott's concept of distributed authorship and La Plissure du Texte. Both LPDT2, as well as LPDT3 have been exhibited at international, curated art exhibitions such as ISEA2011, and at the 2010 multimedia festival at Tomorrow City, Incheon, Korea in 2010.
Eupalinos Ugajin ("Jazz on Bones")
My work explores the relationship between gender politics and midlife subcultures. With influences as diverse as Munch and Roy Lichtenstein, new variations are distilled from both traditional and modern meanings. Ever since I was a postgraduate I have been fascinated by the essential unreality of relationships. What starts out as triumph soon becomes corrupted into a cacophony of distress, leaving only a sense of unreality and the chance of a new beginning. As subtle forms become distorted through diligent and critical practice, the viewer is left with a statement of the corners of our condition. http://www.artybollocks.com/ and http://eupalinosugajin.wordpress.com/
Maya Paris ("Bank Job")
Maya Paris likes to unleash scissor-wielding superheroines, explode popwrecktastic potential, ninja-wax your inner trollop, dangle upside down like a common weed, throw a banana on your head and shimmy on a cactus. http://mayaparisbluestocking.blogspot.co.uk/

Oberon #8
Hello again after a long hiatus. Another artist's computer crashed, delaying us a bit more. But now everything is in place and we are about to open the site for in-world viewing.
We created a neologism for an overall title - "Topophonia" - which we like to think means "an audio experience in a 3-dimensional metaverse space". Or something like that.
Here's the poster for the installations:
Note that we are having a "meet the artist" event on January 27. Please feel free to log in, visit the installations, and meet all four artists.

Oberon #7
We're finally all up and running! Maya is back - thank heavens - and all four of us had a meeting to decide certain housekeeping items, such as TP mechanisms, new in-world exhibition date, and promotional materials.
I'm excited that our four versions of the primary concept are shaping up to be so different. And different in more than merely stylistic ways. My task now is to write an explanatory note that ties it all together. That's always a challenge since most people don't read anything at all! I am going to place a temporary kiosk with the current LMs for each of the four installations, in case anyone reading this blog would like to see the works in progress.
The new date for the in-world opening is Sunday, January 13. I don't know the time yet - we're all in different time zones so, as always, it's complicated. Alpha will design a poster with "listen ..." as the show's title.

Pyewacket Kazyanenko Exhibition
Yoshikaze "Up-In-The-Air" Second Life Residency presents
Pyewacket Kazyanenko
11 - 17 December 2012
@ HUMlab, Umeå University, Sweden
Opening Hours: 8am - 4 pm Weekdays
Opening: 11 January Between 2pm - 4pm
In-World Performance at 2pm
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Minimal Glitch
My work at Humlab involved the exploration of the glitch or oddity, both visually and conceptually within a virtual world. I sought to make unexpected things happen revealing new possibility.
I explored the psychology of the avatar through the use of multiple bodies and 'bots' (automated humanoid entities) in Second Life and used them to form concepts about future interactions with robots and artificial intelligence.
"The scientist has responsibility in creating life. There will be glitches." I hope to present abstract but futuristic ideas with a minimalist aesthetic.
Pyewacket Kazyanenko
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pyewacket Kazyanenko is an established Second Life performance artist, who has been working for Stelarc in Second Life as well as making her own work along the way. Between 15 February to 12 June 2012, Pyewacket held a residency at Yoshikaze in Second Life. During this time she has produced numerous works that are typically "Pyewacket": her virtual vision of refined graphics in familiar surroundings combined with beautifully choreographed avatar and bots, making the perceived future tangible to the wide audience almost in a manga-like manner.
11 - 17 December 2012 at HUMlab, Umeå University, Sweden, Yoshikaze is pleased to present Pyewacket's works at HUMlab, Umeå University in Sweden.
At the opening, Pyewacket and his collaborator Jo Ellsmere will also perform an inworld-glitch-sound-performance. You are welcome to join us at HUMlab at Umeå University or in-world at http://slurl.com/secondlife/HUMlab%20II/28/71/38 from 2pm to 4pm on 11 December, 2012.
Curated by Goodwind Seiling/Sachiko Hayashi in collaboration with HUMlab. The poster design by Carl-Erik Engqvist from HUMlab.
Yoshikaze "Up-in-the-Air" Residency (www.slurl.com/secondlife/HUMlab/95/215/351) is a Second Life residency programme run by Sachiko Hayashi together with SL HUMlab sim manager James Barrett and RL HUMlab art director Carl-Erik Engqvist, Umeå University, Sweden. Oberon #6
I have pretty much completed my installation. I'm now at the tweaking stage, which for me could go on ... well ... forever! The tweaks are mostly with the sounds at this point.
Maya's computer died again, so her progress has stopped for now. Fingers crossed. The others are progressing in their own ways. Alpha had some questions about bots - she intends to use 3 bots which I will host on my Linux box at home. Eupalinos has had one or two script questions which I think we resolved.
So,a t this point, except for Maya's computer problems, I think we're more or less on track. We have started to talk about the flow from one installation to the next. Nothing decided yet. I do know that the TP point in the kiosk on the ground will have to change. Or perhaps the kiosk itself will have to go away for a while to make room for one built for the intallation. But we'll see when the time gets closer.
